Goal examples
  • “I need work as soon as possible. This week I will update my resume, set alerts, and apply to 6 jobs with follow-ups.”
  • “I’m working but want a better-paying role. I will identify a target occupation, tailor my resume, and apply consistently.”
3) Oregon CIS + Workforce Tools (Career Exploration + Self-Referral) optional • recommended for Better Job

Purpose: Use Oregon CIS to explore career options, clarify direction, and submit a self-referral through Workforce Tools if you want follow-up support.

3A) Create / connect your Oregon CIS account

Oregon CIS stands for Oregon Career Information System. It helps you explore careers and keep planning information in one place.

  1. Go to https://oregoncis.uoregon.edu/ and log in
  2. Use these credentials to connect your account to the Eastern Oregon Workforce Tools “super site”:
    • Guest Username: EOWB25
    • Guest Password: EasternOregon1
  3. If you don’t have an account, create one using the guest credentials in the first section.
3B) What Workforce Tools is (and why you should care)

Workforce Tools is a referral system you can use to refer yourself to WorkSource partners and community organizations.

Instead of calling and re-explaining your story to three people, you can submit requests from one platform.

3C) Submit a Self-Referral (optional, but fastest routing)

When you submit a self-referral, you’ll pick:

  • What you need help with (category)
  • Your preferred contact method (call/text/email)
  • A short description of what you want help with

Suggested message (copy/paste):

I’m looking for help with job search and career direction. My goal is [job goal]. I’m available [days/times]. Preferred contact: [phone/text/email].

After logging in (important)
  1. Go to Workforce Tools
  2. Open Service Providers
  3. Sort/filter providers by your location and the type of resource you need
  4. Find providers on the map or list
  5. Select the provider to request services
Open Self-Referral (Workforce Tools)
4) Career Tools (Assessments + Skills Gap) Better Job • optional for Job Now

Purpose: Use Oregon CIS tools to clarify your direction, identify strengths, and turn results into a simple plan.

Start in Oregon CIS

Log in and find the Assessments section: https://oregoncis.uoregon.edu/

Recommended assessment path (Better Job)
  1. Interest Profiler – Short Form (Formal)
  2. Skills (Formal)
  3. Workplace Readiness & Employability Skills (Informal)
  4. Reality Check (Informal) (confirm wages + feasibility)

Then use: Occupation Sort (and Certificate Sort only if a short credential helps).

✅ Outcome: 1 target occupation + 1–3 skill upgrades to pursue next.

Use the “Sorts” to turn results into a plan
  • Occupation Sort: narrow job titles that match your interests and skills
  • Certificate Sort: optional (only if a quick credential helps your upgrade)
  • School Sort: optional
  • Scholarship Sort: optional
Translate results into action (write these down)
Quick “Stop Here” rule

Once you can answer these three questions, you’re done with Step 4:

  1. What job am I aiming for? (1–3 options)
  2. What skills do I need next? (1–3 skills)
  3. What’s my next step? (Step 5 or Step 6)
Open Oregon CIS
5) Resume + Interview Prep job-ready materials

Purpose: Build job-ready materials so your applications turn into interviews.

5A) Get your resume into iMatchSkills (main upload)

If you already have a resume file (Word or PDF), upload it into iMatchSkills: https://www.imatchskills.org/

Why upload to iMatchSkills?

  • Improves job matches and job alerts
  • Makes applying faster
  • Lets employers find you (if you choose to share)
  • Allows WorkSource staff to review it if you request help
5B) Don’t have a resume file? Build one in iMatchSkills

Use the iMatchSkills resume builder inside your account.

What you’ll need:

  • Job titles + employers + dates
  • A few bullet points about what you did
  • Education/training
5C) Tailor your resume to your target job (this is what gets interviews)

Step 1: Pick one target job title:

Step 2: Make 3 quick edits to match the posting:

  1. Top summary line (1–2 lines) that matches the job
  2. Skills list (6–10 skills) that match the posting
  3. Work history bullets showing outcomes (not just duties)
5D) Interview Prep Mini-Module (10 minutes)

These notes help you answer the first questions confidently and stay consistent across interviews.

5E) Want help with your resume or interview? (Workshops + support)

Contact WorkSource Eastern Oregon: https://eoworks.org/contact/

Open iMatchSkills
6) Job Search & Resources apply + track + follow up

Purpose: This is the action step. You’ve got a direction and a resume in iMatchSkills. Now you run a simple plan that produces interviews.

6A) Job Search Plan Builder (60 seconds)

Pick a mode + time available, then enter 1–2 target job titles. Click “Generate Plan” to create your weekly targets.

6B) iMatchSkills: job alerts + saved searches

iMatchSkills: https://www.imatchskills.org/

Do these two things:

  1. Turn on Job Alerts for your target job titles and locations
  2. Create at least one Saved Search (plus one backup only if needed)
6C) Hiring events + workshops

Hiring events and workshops can speed things up (employer contact + confidence + feedback).

To ask about workshops or get scheduled: https://eoworks.org/contact/

6D) Track applications (minimum template)

Tracking prevents lost follow-ups and duplicate applications.

Minimum fields:

  • Job title + employer
  • Date applied
  • Where you applied
  • Follow-up date
  • Status
Best job search websites (start with these)

Tip: Use 2–3 sites consistently (plus iMatchSkills). Too many sites = scattered effort and missed follow-ups.

Specialized boards (use only if relevant)

Best practice: Apply on the employer’s website when possible, even if you found the job on a job board.

7) Summary + Downloads your plan + tracker

Purpose: Review what you entered, keep your weekly plan, and download a tracker so follow-ups don’t disappear into the void.

Your summary

Click “Generate Summary” to pull your goal, targets, interview notes, and weekly plan into one copyable block.

Download: Job Application Tracker

Use this tracker to record applications and schedule follow-ups.

Columns include: Employer, Job Title, Date Applied, Where Applied, Contact Name, Contact Info, Follow-up Date, Status, Notes.
